Apartment House

200001 / Bratislava / Schoolworks

The assignment was not accompanied by any real layout and the building was designed as a separate dwelling house with smaller flats. On the first floor of the seven floor building there is a shop with separate entrance, a room for baby carriages, a vestibule with mailboxes and occupants' basements. The vertical communication core is located in the northern part and is formed by a glass elevator shaft and a stair-case. A typical floor consists of two mirroring three room flats and a flatlet. The flats are divided into two functional sections a day zone and a night zone. The day zone consists of a hall, a toilet, a living room and a dining room with a dining area. The night zone consists of a bedroom and a bathroom. Every flat has two spacious balconies, one by the kitchen and one by the parents' bedroom. The main shape of the building is a cube with a squared floor plan and slightly trimmed edges. To the basic square form more volumes were added so that the final sha-pe resembles a cross. Added balconies however re-semble the original and almost regular squared ground plan. The construction materials are sober and no pastel coloured plaster has been used, etc. The colour scale was limited to the human fulvous colour for the main volume, neutral white plaster of protruding parts and quiet grey perforated sheet
