Gallery of Architecture

200206 / Donau shore, Bratislava / Competitions

The designed building is located in the open area on the right part of the Danube embankment in front of the "Old bridge”. As the lot is very lively the gallery was carefully designed to make up the embankment skyline and its height does not aspire to dominate the surroundings. The gallery is three floors high with open columned ground floor holding a visitors' and employee car park and technological equipment of the building. The second floor is mildly polyfunctional housing a cafeteria (as an independent operation), a special bookstore, a gallery vestibule and an information desk, an entrance hall, a cloakroom and sanitary facilities for visitors (including a barrier-free toilet), a receptionist's desk, a ticket sale office and administrative offices. Exposition area occupies about one third of the floor area and it has been earmarked for constant exhibition of architecture and building industry. The spacious third floor holds temporary exhibitions neighbouring to depositories, storerooms and workshops including staff sanitary facilities. Here the curator's office with auxiliary rooms is located. The whole building is barrier-free with two convenient elevators and a broad staircase for visitors and one elevator and a staircase for the office staff. Exhibits are transported vertically in a freight elevator. The construction is a reinforced concrete frame 7,2 x 7,2 meters and the building is partially airconditioned depending on the importance of the area.
